P. dactyloceras is native to the tropics of west Africa, from Guinea to Angola. It is an epiphyte meaning that it can non-parasitically grows on other plants and sometimes even buildings. It flowers from the spring to the fall. The blooms appear to be translucent or glass-like. It grows at elevation of 750 to 1950 meters high and often near water sources. This flower prefers warm to hot temperatures in semi-shaded areas.
